ORCID

Overview
Open Researcher and Contributor ID
A global standard for uniquely identifying researchers and ensuring accurate attribution of scholarly work.

ORCID provides each researcher with a persistent digital identifier that distinguishes them from other researchers with similar names and enables reliable linking of publications, affiliations, grants, datasets, peer review activities, and other scholarly outputs.

JSM strongly encourages the following groups to register for an ORCID iD and include it in their profiles and manuscript submissions:

Why ORCID Matters

ORCID helps to:

Distinguish researchers from others with similar names
Ensure accurate attribution of publications
Improve the discoverability of scholarly outputs
Facilitate integration with publishers, funding agencies, and research institutions
Reduce administrative burden during manuscript submission
Enhance international visibility and academic recognition
ORCID in the Publication Process

JSM encourages corresponding authors to provide ORCID iDs for all co-authors during manuscript submission.

Where available, ORCID iDs will be displayed on published articles and incorporated into the article metadata deposited with Crossref.

Linking ORCID with published articles helps ensure that research outputs are accurately attributed and easily discoverable across international scholarly databases.
